The New Mexico Corrections Department is responsible for keeping an updated database for individuals who are serving their sentence in New Mexico state prisons.

The database is open to the public. The database is located on the New Mexico Corrections Department official website. You can search for inmates by NMCD number, inmate number, or their first and last name. Just a reminder that the Records Bureau, Central Office, and the Constituent Services cannot provide any updates, information, or status on inmates.

Unlike the state of New Mexico, New Mexico’s city and county jails inmates are not in this database. If you are needing information on an inmate residing in a city or a county jail, you will need to reach out to the correct authorities.

Basic Information

How to Do an Inmate Search in New Mexico

When an offender is housed in state prison, they are the property of the Department of Corrections Division. As stated above every state’s Department of Corrections Division has their own jail roster or database that the general public may use.

The New Mexico Department of Corrections offender search database can be found on the official New Mexico Department of Corrections website.

You can search the inmate list by using the following pieces of information:

• NMCD Number
• First Name
• Last Name
• Offender Number

The NMCD number will take precedence during all searches. The NMCD is a five-digit number. All incoming inmates will be assigned their NMCD number by the New Mexico Department of Corrections. This will be the easiest and quickest way to locate an inmate.

If you decide to enter their NMCD number in the field provided, you will NOT need to enter their first and last name. However, the NMCD field will only show results for the EXACT number you have entered, so you will want to double check, if no results pop up.

If you don’t know the inmate’s NMCD number or there is no search results for the NMCD number you plugged in, the next thing you can do is search by the inmate’s first and last name.

When you finally get some search results, you will see a list of all inmates that fit the criteria you plugged in. This is not a release search. All inmates are currently sitting behind bars.
